It was my week to choose and I was getting suggestions from Jessika - Station 22 was high on her list. We ended up having a late lunch (12:45) because Dave had a meeting in SLC. Dave, Jessika (and Cora), Karen, Lane, Scott, and I had a nice meal.
My meal: I had a Golden State Burger with roasted red peppers, avocado, mozzarella, and pesto mayo. I love roasted red pepper so I couldn't resist. The burger was cooked well (slightly pink) and all the ingredients went together nicely. I wish there had been a little more roasted red pepper though. I ordered a side salad with Memphis Ranch. I liked the ranch at first, but then I burned out.

The rest of the group:
Lane didn't love his salad (the arugula?) but liked his Alamo burger I think.
Scott got the same thing as me and it disappeared quickly. =) He really liked the salad with a citrus vinaigrette.
Karen got a Caesar salad with salmon.
Dave got a Memphis salad which I think he enjoyed.

| Memphis Chicken Salad |
The Memphis salad had a nice piece of hand-breaded fried chicken breast on it. The dressing that was served with the arugula based salad is their Memphis Ranch Dressing. It is just on the edge of being spicy.
Jessika got pulled pork and a mound of mashed potatoes. She liked it.
We also ordered the Hillbilly Hummus. I think everyone liked it well enough.
My impressions: At $12 for a burger and salad, it's definitely over-priced. After tax and tip I think Jessika and I were at $30. Our server was great and attentive, although Karen did go without water for bit (we arrived in intervals, so you can't really blame her). Food was very tasty. Ambiance was fine - not too loud, nice big table for our group of 6, good temperature, etc. Would I go back? Maybe once in a while. The high price is a tough pill to swallow. If it were $3-4 cheaper we'd be back more often.
Negatives: Over-priced and far away restroom.

As Mike mentioned, I did have the Alamo Burger. It was tasty. The bun was soft/fresh and contained the burger well. It had deep fried jalapeños, and they were as yummy as they sound. The beef patty was cooked perfectly, just slightly pink in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI got a diet coke with lemon (no limes, c'mon) in a large mason jar. It was enough that I didn't need a refill the entire time. It seems like Dave had to ask for a refill on his drink at one point.
The restroom is a bit of an ordeal...if you REALLY needed to go there is a good chance you wouldn't make it there in time. The actual mens room is a good quarter mile (okay, maybe SLIGHT exaggeration) away in a communal section of the building this restaurant is in. To their credit, finding the restroom, despite the distance, is easy enough as it is well (and I mean WELL) signed. There were probably 10 or 12 "Restroom" signs with an arrow pointing the way. What they apparently didn't consider, however...given the distance...is the journey back to your respective restaurant. There are no signs, and it took a couple wrong turns and some trial and error to actually make it back to my seat at Station 22. :)
Overall the ambiance was decent. Like Mike mentioned, it was not too loud. We had a nice roomy table that was on the near end and somewhat secluded from everyone else. That was nice.
I guess the only real negative was the price. I think my burger was $11.99, and the drink was $2.50. Plus tax, plus tip, I think I was pushing $19. That's a lot for a burger and a drink! Oh, and a crappy little salad that I didn't really eat. I guess if I'd gotten the battered fries it would have seemed like a little better bang for my lunch buck.
Okay, the end.
I had the Memphis Chicken Salad. This was a very tasty salad. I liked the hand-breaded fried chicken breast on the arugula based salad. I dug the Memphis Ranch dressing that they recommended with this. It was on the verge of being spicy. All in all, it was a good salad, albeit a tad small if you are a hungry man.
ReplyDeleteI liked their menu. The lay-out seemed to be easy to read. Burgers were grouped together, as were the other items. Interestingly enough, more than half of their menu is made up of drinks. I found the drink area overwhelming. I finally gave up and ordered a Diet Coke with a lime. They didn't have limes which is interesting since they seem to really pride themselves on their drinks. Another interesting thing about the drinks is that they are served in quart mason jars. It is really easy to judge how much you have drank when you just finish a quart jar. :-)
Some restaurants are very noisy and loud. I am happy to say that this didn't seem at all loud. We easily were able to hear people from the other end of the table. That is a plus in my book.
I think that the place is over priced for lunch. It would be a nice place to take your significant other out to dinner or, it would be a nice place for a "special" lunch. But, just as a place to go with the guys, it was a bit pricy.
I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. As I told the guy, the owner has actually tasted his product. The food was tasty. With that said, my wife and I's bill was $35, including a tip. That is pricey for lunch. Over all, the restaurant is a plus as Dave said above BUT impossible for the 'daily' lunch crowd to frequent very often. This tidbit of information would be important for the restaurant owner to know.
